Fascia Sign FAQ

A Fascia sign is essentially any type of sign that has been installed on the building’s “fascia” or in other words, the front of the building. Fascia signs are most commonly flat against the building and rectangular in shape.

Example of a fascia sign by AGC Signs

In technical terms, the fascia of a modern building is a horizontal band that runs along the bottom of the roof and then overhangs the outer walls of the building.

Fascia signs are typically installed in this general area of the building, though they can be placed anywhere on the building’s façade (the outer walls of the building).

Fascia signs are an excellent signage choice for your business as they let customers know where you are located and who you are.

What types of fascia signs are available?

A Fascia sign can be made from many types of materials

When it comes to fascia signs, the options are pretty much endless.

Since they are not one specific style of sign, but simply a sign installed in a certain location, they can be made from nearly anything and look almost any way you like.

As mentioned above, most fascia signs are flat and rectangular. Some have letters that ‘pop’ off the sign (channel letters) and others have letters that are printed right onto the sign face.

Fascia signs can be made from a wide range of materials (or a mix of materials), including but not limited to:

  • Aluminum

  • Wood

  • Steel

  • Vinyl

  • Fabrics

  • Other plastics

  • Plexiglass

  • Plywood

  • Polycarbonate

Certain materials may be better suited depending on your particular needs or budget, so it’s best to get in touch with signage professionals to find out which is the best for you and your business!

How much does a fascia sign cost?

Because fascia signs come in all types of shapes and sizes, it is difficult to say exactly how much your sign will cost. There are so many factors that will impact the final cost, such as:

  • Materials used

  • Sign size

  • Whether or not it is illuminated

  • Type of illumination

  • Installation fees

In general, the average price for a high-quality business sign is between $2,000 - $3,000, however, for smaller signs, the cost could be less and for more complex, larger signs, the cost could be up to $5,000 or more.

What is the difference between a fascia sign and a monument or pylon sign?

Pylon/monument signs (left) are located away from the building, while fascia signs (right) are located directly on the front of your building

A fascia sign is a sign that is installed directly on the face of your building. Monument and pylon signs are not attached to your building.

In fact, pylon and monument signs are typically located away from the building, for example, in parking lots or close to the sidewalk.

How long do fascia signs usually last?

There are a number of factors that will impact how long your fascia sign will last. These factors include:

  • The type of materials used (for example, some materials have a lifespan of about 5 years, while other materials can last 10-15)

  • The weather in your location (very cold or very hot temperatures can degrade sign materials)

  • The quality of materials used (higher quality materials will last longer)

  • Maintenance (signs that receive regular maintenance will stay in good shape for longer)

At the very least, most signs will last for 5 years before they need significant maintenance or replacing. However, higher-quality signs that receive regular maintenance can last for 10 years or more.

How are fascia signs installed?

Fascia signs should always be installed by a professional

Fascia signs should be installed by a professional signage company. This is definitely not a DIY job! Fascia signs are installed high up on a building, which means special tools and machinery are required to complete the job.

As well, installing a fascia sign can be dangerous, since you will be working at heights. Plus, there are often electrical components as most fascia signs are illuminated.

A professional signage company will come to your property and install your sign for you, in some cases, it can be the same company that built your sign.

For example, at AGC Signs, we design, manufacture, install, and maintain signs for our customers!

Where is the best place to purchase a fascia sign?

The best place to get a fascia sign is through an experienced and professional signage company. When looking for a company, ask about their experience and previous projects completed to see if you are impressed by their work.

A professional sign company that is proud of its work will likely display many examples of their previously completed signs right on their website.

Why do I need a fascia sign?

A fascia sign tells your customers where you are - and who you are!

A fascia sign is an important type of sign for your business. Fascia signs are often one of the first things, if not the first thing, that customers see when they pull up to your store or business.

A sign located right on your building will not only tell your customers who you are but also that they have arrived at the correct location. Furthermore, it is important for your branding and will ensure your business looks professional.

What are the bylaws regarding fascia signs?

There are signage by-laws that regulate how and where businesses can install signs on and around their commercial properties.

Follow the links below to learn more about some local by-laws.

If you are not sure about the bylaws in your area, you can simply google “sign bylaws [your city name]” and you should be able to quickly find out more information.
