Sign #1 - Creative Layout

If your business already has creative branding or a unique logo, incorporate it into your storefront signage.

Combining text with visual symbolism, such as a company logo, is a sure way of creating unique business signs.

Logos are very important for your brand recognition, so when you first brainstorm that aspect of your branding, make sure to follow some tried and true principles of the marketing industry, or work with a sign company that can handle the graphic design for you.

Sign #2 - Visual Advertising

Along with the importance of creativity and originality mentioned in the first section, keep in mind that storefront signs are visual tools.

They’re the first impression that your business makes to the public, so you want your sign to capture exactly what it is your business does.

In the sign above, they use a green colour to match the name of the business, they use relevant icons, and they even chose to install a digital sign that can be programmed to display additional slogans, sales information, or simply grab attention easier during bad weather.

Sign #3 - Ads on the Move

As far as unique business signs go, it’s hard to beat vehicle wraps and graphics.

Wraps are a layer of vinyl that are pressed around your vehicle using heat. They can display whatever advertising or images you like, and they even double as protection for the original paint underneath.

Wraps can be safely removed if you ever want to change it up, or simply reset the vehicle to its original state.

Sign #4 - PErsonal Touch

Consider getting crafty and gluing thin wood slats to a small blackboard for a customizable, DIY sign solution. If you can’t find a blackboard, you can use some other solid flat surface and simply coat it in chalk paint.

While we of course wouldn’t recommend this approach for a big, permanent storefront sign, smaller signs like this are great for businesses like cafes to show off their menu/specials, or to place against the window to let passersby know whether you’re open or closed.

Sign #5 - MAtching Awning

If you already have the design of your main sign finalized, consider augmenting your storefront with an awning.

Any awnings used should match the colours and aesthetics already established by your logo and marketing.

Awnings can be small and bold, acting as a classy upgrade to your storefront, or they can be large enough to function as a practical way of protecting the front of your business from rain and snow.

Sign #6 - Grand Entrance

If you need your unique business signs to truly wow customers, then go all out with your entrance.

High-end stores or shopping centres often combine striking large windows with bold text and large signs, allowing all those features to come together to make a storefront that’s exciting to look at and hopefully appealing to shop at.

Larger, complicated signs like the one above can take longer to install, so it’s worth calling a local sign company directly to get a timeframe estimate before committing to the project.

Sign #7 - Exciting Neon

Neon signs have a sharp, distinctive look, and are the classic choice for urban business open after dark.

Even though the most popular neon signs are white and red, they actually come in all sorts of colours. Match those colours to the interior design of your business to build a tasteful experience for all guests.

Sign #8 - Old Fashioned

Changing settings from the bright urban neon just above, old-fashioned wood-mounted slab signs are perfect for homey, comforting rural businesses.

People associate wooden buildings and features with the outdoors and the country, so make use of that when building a sign. You can use wooden beams to support your sign, or even have the whole sign itself made of carved wood.

Just keep in mind that wood will need more preparation and maintenance than standard materials like aluminum or concrete, especially if your area has intense winters.

Sign #9 - unique Fonts

Some signs are not as memorable because the font chosen for the business or slogan is too common.

As anyone in digital marketing knows, choosing fonts can be difficult. You want to grab people’s attention with the originality of the font, but you don’t want it to look unprofessional or have text that’s hard to read.

But provided you take your time planning the look of your sign, and follow some advice lifted from the digital marketing industry, a unique font can be the factor that really lets you build some truly unique business signs.

Sign #10 - Building Painting

If you’re feeling especially creative, you could even paint your sign directly on your building.

This will only work if you also own the building, or have a specific agreement with the owner, but it gives you ultimate freedom when it comes to sign creativity.

For large-scale signs that don’t require you to deface a building, consider large custom banners or even billboards.
